Medical & Rehabilitative Exercise
Supervised exercise programming for clients managing chronic conditions, recovering from injury, or transitioning out of formal physical therapy — coordinated with your clinical care team.
Exercise Programming Coordinated with Your Care Team
Medical and rehabilitative exercise sits between formal physical therapy and unsupervised training at a gym. It is for clients who have completed (or are completing) PT, who are managing a chronic condition, or whose physicians have recommended structured, supervised exercise as part of their long-term care plan.
The work is conservative, evidence-based, and coordinated with the physicians, physical therapists, or other clinicians involved. The goal is to extend the gains made in therapy, maintain function over time, and return clients to the activities they want to do — without setbacks.
Important: Medical exercise is not a substitute for physical therapy or medical care. It is a complementary service for clients whose providers have cleared them for supervised exercise programming. Clearance from a physician or PT is required before starting.
Who It's For
- Post-physical-therapy clients transitioning out of formal PT and looking to maintain or build on their progress safely.
- Post-surgical recovery — clients cleared for exercise after orthopedic, cardiac, or other procedures.
- Chronic-condition management — arthritis, osteoporosis, hypertension, type 2 diabetes, and other conditions that benefit from supervised exercise.
- Older adults focused on balance, strength, and preserving independence and quality of life.
- Clients with movement restrictions who need programming that respects current limitations while building capacity over time.
- Return-to-activity — clients working back toward a sport, recreational activity, or work demand after an injury.
What's Included
Individualized Medical Exercise Programming
One-on-one supervised sessions built around your specific medical history, current restrictions, and recovery or maintenance goals. Programming is reviewed and progressed continuously as your capacity changes.
Stretch Guidance Classes
Small-group sessions focused on mobility, flexibility, and joint range of motion — appropriate for clients whose primary need is staying mobile, managing stiffness, or supporting recovery from a more intensive program.
Physician & PT Collaboration
With your consent, I communicate directly with your physician or physical therapist about programming decisions, progress, and any concerns that come up. This coordination is the foundation of safe medical exercise — not an optional add-on.
Progress Documentation
For clients who want it, I keep written records of session content, progress on key measures, and any notes worth flagging for your care team. These can be shared with your physician or PT on request.
What to Expect
1. Initial Conversation
We start with a phone or video call to discuss your medical history, what you have been working on with your care team, and what you are hoping to accomplish. This is also the moment to determine whether medical exercise is the right fit or whether another type of programming would serve you better.
2. Clearance & Intake
Before any training begins, I require written clearance from your physician or physical therapist confirming that supervised exercise is appropriate. We will also complete a more detailed intake covering medical history, current medications, prior injuries, and movement assessment.
3. Programming
I build your initial program based on the intake and any guidance from your care team. The first several sessions are typically focused on assessment, baseline measures, and getting comfortable with the programming. Progression is conservative and tied to objective markers.
4. Ongoing Sessions
Sessions are typically 45 to 60 minutes, scheduled at a cadence that fits your recovery rate, your other care, and your schedule. In-person sessions run in Wantagh, NY; virtual and hybrid options are available for clients whose situation supports them.
